Prime Time Effect

Legendary Alabama Head Coach Bear Bryant once said, ~It’s not the will to win, but the will to prepare to win that makes the difference.~Let me ask you this question to any and all college football fans, which team do you believe has the strongest contention to go all the way to win the 2024 National Championship? Of course, it will always spark a highly heated debate knowing the Georgia Bulldogs are not only the defending champions, but are determined to win it all again as they represent the SEC. However, there has been considerable focus placed on the Colorado Buffaloes mainly because of their head coach Deion Sanders and the impact he’s made so far. Yet, the question remains is Coach Prime simply all hype or a force to be reckoned with?

Without a doubt, there’s a sense of intriguing excitement now that Coach Prime is the head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes and he’s brought along with him a revitalized energy into a football program that had only won a National Championship under their belt back in 1990. What he’s also brought is the fan presence and because of that he’s doing his best to acknowledge them, especially one fan in particular Peggy Coppom. She and her late town sister, Betty, attended every Colorado football game for over 70 years. In addition to that, they’ve been season ticket holders since 1958 and are a beloved staple to Colorado Football to the point where the sisters were honored by being inducted in the legacy wing of the HOF.

As I said before, Coach Prime’s presence as college head Coach of Buffalo brought a sense of intriguing excitement and revitalized energy to the fan base so much so a tremendous amount of buzz has been created. Thinking about it further, it’s that same amount of buzz where the focus has somewhat shifted to the usual conversation of which college football team has been dominant so far to the actions/words of Coach Prime himself, which can be either a negative or a positive. True, it really depends on who is talking about him and what the word of mouth is concerning the former Atlanta Brave, as well as Falcon concerback’s haters/supporters. For the most part, the talk has been mostly positive and done his best turning the negatives he’s received into positive learning experiences.

For the questions can be asked: what sort of wisdom/life lessons has Coach Prime imparted on his players to become proper young men? Essentially, one of those life lessons is how Coach Prime has instructed being physically, as well as morally respectful to women, especially involving the women on the coaching staff. In other words, zero tolerance if they aren’t able to abide. The act of forgiveness relating to the late hit by Henry Blackbrun during the rivalry game with Colorado State to where he ended up receiving death threats. Coach prime defended Blackburn for just playing the game whether it was deemed a dirty hit or not. I think it’s safe to say those kids will truly benefit from gaining a wealth of knowledge, experience, and life lessons being shared by a football icon who is setting them up for success rather than failure.

In retrospect, there’s countless questions concerning the tenure of Coach Prime as Colorado Buffaloes Head Coach. Questions that are not only on my mind but on other inquiring minds as well.. Questions such as: Will his presence become an overall distraction? I don’t think so. Will he be able to keep the hype. So far, the hype hasn’t died down and his positive influence has not only been spreading, but has continued to win over fans. Will Coach Prime lead them to the playoffs? Maybe. Will he lead them to the National Championship? Highly unlikely this year. If you think about it, although these young men at Colorado may not reach the National Championship they’re already champions as they’re being given valuable tools to succeed in life. In the end, Prime Time is in full effect and there’s no signs of it stopping any time soon.
