Just A Number

A person will encounter in his or her own lifetime countless numbers that can undoubtedly change a person's life. Whether it be professional or personal, a certain number(s) can make a person ask themselves what one has or hasn't accomplished in one's life so far. In a way, it can also make a person more driven than ever to be in a level of high achievement. It's somewhat like having a mid-life crisis even though one hasn't reached mid-life yet. Each one of us has wondered where one will end up in said number of years.

The number 23, an insignificant number as it may be, but when put on a basketball jersey it is associated with Michael Jordan. A living legend and possibly one of the greatests basketball players associated with the game of basketball. For he is a sure candidate for the basketball hall of fame with the numbers he has racked up over the years. His numbers prove that he deserves to be in the hall of fame, but they are just numbers. It's the man who scored those numbers that basketball fans world over will remember.

The number 3 is how many times it took me to get my driver's license. It can be a frustrating thing when you have to go by the numbers in a manner of speaking in order to get that so-called ticket to freedom. As the saying goes, if at first you don't succeed, try try again. It's also been said that the 3rd time's the charm and it's a statement that holds so true. A person will try several times to attain something that means so much to him or her until that final try will clinch it so to speak.

The year 2000, to some it's a number that signified the future. A future in which every person would be driving flyers cars similar to the Jetsons. Moving sidewalks, teleportation, robot maids/butlers, were on people's expectations but all for not. The year 2000 also supposedly marked the end of the world where everything electronic would be shut down and mass chaos would erupt. One's imagination can oftentimes run wild but to no avail, and in the end, it was a number that thankfully did not live up to the hype.

In life, there will be certain numbers that a person will sometimes look forward to. 8/25/77, numbers which may not seem relevant to you but are important to me. For you see on August 25, 1977 I was born and 27 years later I'm still kickin'. A long time ago, I made 2 very significant wishes which I make every year. One of them you all know will hopefully be fulfilled and I'm still waiting for my other wish to come true. In any case, people will remember you not how old you are and in the end, age is just a number.
