A person's imagination is considered to be one of the single most useful tools he or she can use. It can take someone to far off places within one's own mind without going anywhere physically. As counselors, we often go to a place in our heads where we would rather be but can't go there physically. Inevitably, one's mind will drift to that place where he or she is spending their life with the one person that they feel that will offer everything one could possibly imagine. Oftentimes, one's imagination will get the better of him or her and the reality of it all can be somewhat of a let down in the end.
As kids, we used our imaginations all the time to create people and places that seemed real. In a way, we were like MacGyver, at an early age. Making up our own games with the toys that we had to work with was a challenge back in the day. Sometimes half the activities one planned as a kid would either injure us or almost kill us. It's no wonder how kids like me survived a childhood where using your imagination could be considered the most dangerous weapon indeed. If you think about it, a kid's imagination is endless and he or she will tend to lose it as he or she grows older.
As counselors, we are surrounded by constant madness and have to think outside the box. But there are times where each one of us just wants to escape the reality of what is happening around him or her by using one's imagination to go into another reality in one's own head. A reality where one is either getting a tan on the beach and the waves are fresh enough to swim in or surf on. Also one could imagine one's self in the comfort of his or her bed where each of us desperately want to be as the seconds, minutes, and hours go by which can sometimes feel like an eternity.
If you think about it, women, more so than men, have always imagined what their lives would be like when or if they met the person of their dreams. The basic idea of an ideal man that all women imagine will sweep them off their feet is tall, dark and handsome. Though it may or may come true, at least she has that one thing that every person has and that is hope. Like an action/mystery movie, there can also be twists that will take her story in a very different direction. A direction in which a woman will find that the man that will be standing in front her will be someone that she never expected to fall for.
William Shakespeare once said, "Love looks not with the eyes, but with the mind. Love doesn't discriminate, it touches everybody in the heart and you don't need eyes to see that. For each of us has thought about the qualities we look for in that one special person and when we have found it, one just has to hold on to him or her. Think about your first love and how exciting it was. It's that love that can totally take a person by surprise which we never want to go away. Sometimes, finding true love isn't all that a person thought it would be....it's even better than he or she could possibly ever imagine.
