The Final Cut

Susan Colasanit once said, ~I wish my life were a movie and I could take it into the editing room and totally cut this part out. And some other parts. Some other parts definitely need to be cut.~ Without a doubt, it would be an interest situation indeed if we suddenly had the ability to stop the story that is our own individual lives in order to all intents and purposes cut, paste, retouch, etc. the film representing out past, present, and future in a sort of minority report kind of way. For it's truly a thought provoking concept on how countless number of people including myself know firsthand the painstaking process in putting together a completed video only to end up re-editing it after an unsuccessful upload attempt to a particular social media platform site.

If you think about it, there is a definite parallel when editing a video and in a sense friendships that you either want to keep or leave on the cutting room floor, so to speak. True, we've all at some point or another cut friends off from our life never to be in contact with possibly ever again, which is similar to cutting off video clips that don't necessarily fit, need, and/or add value to one's reel of life for that matter. As harsh as that sounds, it is the reality we all live with. Hey, whether it's a no brainer or a considerably difficult decision to make, being able to cut someone you've established a strong bond with, but at the same time experiencing a seemingly toxic relationship with will potentially make you a better person mentally, emotionally, physically, as well as spiritually.

As I said before, for those countless number of people including myself know firsthand the painstaking process in putting together a completed video only to end up re-editing it after an unsuccessful upload attempt to a particular social media platform site. I think I can speak for my fellow video editors.creators when I say there's a tremendous sense of anger and frustration felt when a video that one spent hours on isn't able to be successfully uploaded. Thinking about it further, life can certainly be that exact same way as well as it pertains to a person going through the painstaking hard work of putting all their focus, determination, and ambition in order to move up in their professional career only to end up getting blocked for whatever reason by the powers that be.

Let me ask this question to those video creators/editors who thought their videos would be approved after uploading only to find themselves facing the obstacle of being blocked. What were your initial thoughts and/or feelings? Essentially, a plethora of thoughts and feelings that are at times not suitable to be uttered out loud are experienced when you think there's a chance of having your video uploaded and briefly waiting in hopes of not getting that unwanted notification. Oftentimes, that's how matters of the heart in regards to love/true love is at it involves taking that leap of faith then facing the wall of rejection whereby experiencing heartbreak. What it primarily comes down to is not giving up and being able to keep at it until you've successfully seen efforts pay off in the form of true happiness.

Nathan W. Morris said, ~Edit your life frequently and ruthlessly. It's your masterpiece after all.~ In retrospect, it would be absolutely remarkable if we had the ability to minitory report the film reel of our own life and edit out/remove the memories we don't want. However, it's those same unwanted memories that in a way help in our growth to hopefully become much stronger in the present leading into the future. Of course, we want a perfect video or in this particular life it's not going to ever be and that's just fine. In the end, the film reel that each one of our lives is continually being edited and once we ultimately reach the final cut of what we've been painstakingly working hard for we can look back proudly smiling at the video left behind for others to view.
