Drop The Mic

Someone once said, ~If you have to say or do something controversial, aim so that people will hate that they love it and not love that they hate it.~ Controversy creates attention where it gets people talking. Of course, when the talk becomes insurmountably negative than positive it in all intents and purposes stirs the pot leading to an outpouring of public opinion riddled with a combination of hate, disdain, utter contempt, and righteous indignation. For it can most definitely be a heated discussion indeed when certain individuals in the public eye say or do something it creates a social media firestorm of epic proportions. A firestorm in which the backlash can truly be considered absolutely harsh when it involves the following 3 people: Caitlyn Jenner, Kylie Jenner, and Miley Cyrus

Without a doubt, many people including myself were flabbergasted by the announcement that the woman formerly known as Bruce Jenner would be receiving the Arthur Ashe Award for courage at the 2015 ESPY awards in regards to her transitioning from a man to a woman. It didn’t take long for the controversial decision to cause an uproar questioning as to why Jenner deserved the award and not the likes of late college basketball player Lauren Hill, Devin Still’s daughter Leah, or military vet amputee/former Dancing With The Stars contestant Noah Galloway. The 3 previously mentioned either lost their battle with cancer, in remission after battling cancer, and served as an inspiration for military veterans who lost parts of his limbs by simply dancing. What it primarily comes down to is ratings because Disney who owns ESPN capitalized on the huge numbers with the Diane Sawyer interview on ABC, which coincidentally is owned by Disney as well.

As I said before, controversy creates attention to the point where the talk becomes more negative than positive, whereby stirring the pot of public opinion riddled with hate, disdain, utter contempt, and righteous indignation. It’s a sad state of affairs when there is a morbid fascination with the life of former 17 now 18 year old Kylie Jenner and her relationship with 25 year old rapper Tyga that has been mind-blowingly been approved by “Mother of The Year” Kris Jenner. In any case, the mere fact the focus is constantly on her instead of a more deserving 18 year old such as Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai who started an international movement after being shot in the face 3 times by the Taliban for wanting to teach/educate young girls. Fortunately, she survived and is a far greater role model than a spoiled rich girl who fully admitted to injecting her lips to make them fuller and only claim to fame is being part of a famous family by way of a sex tape.

Let me ask you this question when it pertains to Miley Cyrus. How long before the girl who was famously known for being Disney’s Hannah Hannah for several years will she find herself hitting rock bottom? You see, it’s all about shock value for her to where she is certainly headed on a personal, as well as, professional musical career path leading to an unfortunate downward spiral. In my honest opinion, she’s trying too hard in getting away from the Disney character in which many young female fans grew up watching her playing a fictional pop star with dual personas. Unfortunately, her efforts to far surpass Lady Gaga in shocking people in order to stay relevant in the public eye with reckless abandon without any apologies whatsoever is severely jeopardizing her standing with not only her peers, but quite possibly her fans as well, especially after what was revealed today involving her Interview photo spread. Let me tell you something, if someone doesn’t stop her now with her outrageous behavior as of late she’ll hit hard the wall of a harsh reality she won’t ever see or refuses to see coming.

In retrospect, there will always be controversy when it comes to people in the public eye but when it concerns those who are trying to stay relevant forsaking their dignity and self respect it just leaves you shaking your head. True, there are cases when stories of redemption after falling from grace can bring a smile to your face. Hey, even a self professed party girl/tabloid queen Paris Hilton can actually become a role model for young girls. Granted, what Lady Gaga and Paris Hilton are gradually gaining whereas Miley Cyrus is seriously losing is maturity, which is God’s honest truth. Thinking about it further, it wouldn’t surprise me the least if Lindsay Lohan actually turns her life around after witnessing the similar path she’s gone down but with one big difference. She didn’t cross the line. In the end, this is my drop the mic yodaism and if you hate reading what you think is just me having haterade then you need to seriously wake up.
