Here We Go Again

Dennis "The Menace", a once popular television show from one's childhood, but not such a popular name given to a Hurricane. As may who love in the Gulf Coast know that even the possibility of a Hurricane can change one's plans in an instant. For those who are old pros at this, so to speak, can oftentimes reassure the one's who are going through it for the first time tips and pointers to get through the storm. Essentially, its just a matter of keeping a positive outlook even though past storms such as Ivan "The Terrible" didn't give people of the Gulf Coast a reason to smile. For the most part, keeping yourself distracted and/or busy can hopefully get one through the storm we're going to experience.

Undoubtedly, it can be tough to distract yourself mentally from the carnage that is going on all around you. With all the sounds and debris that one hears, especially at night, can make a person jumpr and/or a little edgey to the point where paranoia can set in. The tapping of branch on a window, or the howling winds pushing against one's house can make you somewhat feel as if you're in a movie somewhat like The Wizard of Oz; but what Dorothy went through in the movies can't compare to what people are going to go through in real life. Nobody can fathom the thoughts and feelings a person goes through and yet one can fairly have a good idea what those thoughts and feelings are.

There comes a point when the Hurrican is over and one witnesses the aftermath of what it has done, you now find yourself without the necessities that you are so used to. Necessities such as hot water, air conditioning, and most of all electricity, which in all honesty one wants back on when Hurrican Dennis is over. However, it doesn't work that way and one has to endure what everybody else has to endure for the period of time the storm lasts and how fast the power companies can save the day, in a manner of speaking, by turning on the power quickly. Let me tell you something, a person will actually do the happy dance when power cuts on and my dance is somewhat uncoordinated, as well as, a little dorky.

Keeping yourself entertained can be a tough task indeed. One can most definitely can have cabin fever being stuck in one place for quite a bit of time with people who you generally get along with, but will knock out without hestiation if one spent more time with them. In any case, doing activities such as listenting to CD's, playing board games, writing, drawing, and playing ping pong can help with the boredom of not having power, as well as, not going postal on your friends or family. Fortunately, my brother's ping pong table arrived a couple of days ago so he and I know what we are doing when the power goes out, plus it gives a chance to see who wins the title of champ for ping pong supremecy.

In retrospect, it's all in God's hands now as the storm gets stronger and stronger by the minute. Who knows what the Gulf Coast will be in store for as Hurrican Dennis slowly but surely approaches. Keeping my sense of humor though all this, here is the plan just in case I land on your doorstep or in your tree. First off, check to see if I'm ok and If I am take me to the airport or put me in taxi for home, depending on far Dennis throws me. If I'm not ok take me to the hospital, then to the airpoit or taxi. Anyways, as of right now this is my last Yodaism, but I'll be back when the power is on. So, in the end, to the people of the Gulf Coast batten down the hatches and all there is left to say is here we go again.
