G.K. Chesterton once said, ~Thieves respect property, they merely wish their propery to become their property that they may more perfectly respect it.~ Let me ask you this question, do you consider yourself a kleptomaniac? What is a kleptomaniac? Its its most simplest definition its defined as someone with an irrational urge to steal in the absence of an economic motive. Without a doubt, we've all taken or "borrowed" something without permssion that primarily didn't have any kind of economic value to it and the only reason we took it was because nobody was looking giving us ample opportunity to take it. Whether its either an adrenaline rush or simply a spur of the moment situation and if you agree or disagree you do it because its sometimes fun to do.
If you think about it, we all tend to have the proverbial sticky fingers when it comes to taking a writing utenisl such as a pen. It would be safe to say that we all have a particular pen each of us use on a semi-daily basis and when it comes to having someone borrow it you tend to become somewhay protective to the point of hunting him/her down to get it back. Thinking about it, a pen is one of those objects you just can help yourself from taking because you start out borrowing and then end supposedly forgetting to giveit back. For its a befuddling thought indeed as to why each of us take a seemingly unintersting object that will at times leak or have no at all making it impossible to write anything, but its still kept with the other "borrowed" pens in drawer.
Oftentimes, taking something from any kind of side of the road living establishment such as motel/hotel is considered a right or should I say obligation. Lets all be honest here people, how many of us have taken towkles from certain well known motels/hotels such as The Hilton, Marriott, Motel 6, etc. knowing you have a closet fill of them at home. Here's an interesting question through, who would more likely take towels as their own without feeling any guilt whatsoever married people or single people? It really depends on the living situation and how frugal a person or a family can be with his/her/their money, which may be seen as cheap to some people and yet to others its a good idea giving them the opportunity to take something that will always be used by them, as well as, their friends.
For the question can be asked, how many of you "borrow" clothing from someone like a brother/sister/ friend/ roommate without their permission and haven't given it back yet. A woman, more so than a guy, tends to be the so called sneaky cat burglars when it comes to taking clothing from their friends or best friend for that matter because in her own rationalized mind she would look better wearing than her. Ladies, when was the last time you searched through your friends or best friend's closet when she wasn't looking and "borrowed" something she may have bought recently. Its that particular article of clothing you liked so much that you put it in your own closet knowing she would be looking for it and when you're asked about it you claim absolute deniablity on its whereabouts.
In retrospect, its in our basic human nature of being the quintessenital hunter/gatherers to take something with reasons or without any reason at all no matter what the consequences we may possibly suffer. We will never really outgrow those tendencies to act like a kid and steal something that we'll deny later ever taking hoping that nobody we told or overheard somebody we told will snitch on us. Objects like street signs, cd's, ipods, tools, bikes, books, magazine, etc. are just some of things that intrigue us so much we get the proverbial itchy finger to quietly lift it from its original owner. In the end, we all tend to have that same childhood thought when coming across something that we truly want for ourselves and nobody is looking which is finders keepers, losers weepers.
