Ada Louise Huxtable said, ~Summer is the time where one sheds one's tensions with one's clothes and the right kind of day is jeweled balm for the battered spirit. A few of those days and you can become drunk with the belief that all's right with the world.~ Essentially, a person has to sober up to the fact that all things must come to and end and unforunately, though you want it to keep keeping, the end of summer is at hand. Let me ask you this question, when you look back at it, were your experiences memorable ones or would you rather forget them alltogether? Personally speaking, my experiences of summer 2005 have been filled with absolute craziness and looking back there are things that I miss, as well as, not miss.
One of the things that I will miss is antagnozing/messing with all the kids who have antagonized/messed with us. Unlike past summers, this particular one has been absolutely for the simple of reason that there is a cast of characters that truly make us laugh and have made our job very intersting. There is one child that we love to antigonize/mess with due to his name which is associated with a chipmunks cartoon character and whenever we call him we say the other two names too. As wrong as that sounds, its quite entertaining even though we may be responsible for him going into therapy later down the road. For the most part, its all in good fun and the kids know that...at least I hope they know that.
Another thing that I will miss are the field trips that we don't have to pay for ourselves and some that are just free to go to. Its just on of the perks that myself and my fellow co-workers have enjoyed going over the past years and won't take for granted. Field trips that have involved food, such as pizza, have been particularly enjoyable because the tab is picked up by the asylum, which isn't bad thing its a good thing. With this summer being such a scorcher, going to the swimming pool has never been so good although, one can get sick from swimming 2 or 3 times a week. Its simply one of the drawbacks of going to the swimming pool, but hey its part of job that you have to deal with.
Without a doubt, the things that I will not miss are things that can get under a person skin when it involves kids, especially 6 & 7 year olds. Having the same question asked over and over again such as: 1.) When is snack? 2.) Where are we going? 3.) Are we there yet? Its those kinds of questions that will make you go into a dark room to either cry, break things or go completely insane. When its not the questions, its dealing with the constant complaining, whining, and fighting that happens every day by the same usual suspects, who seemingly enjoy what they do. Its evident on the smiles on their faces and to be perfectly honest we might testify against them after we first join the witness protection program and I'm not kidding on this.
In retrospect, I have loved...liked...spending time with "my kids" over the summer, BUT they have to go back to school. Can I get an A-men from the parents and to those that work with kids! Let me tell you something I need a another vacation from my working summer vacation. I'm ending this thought with a greeting to a teacher named Mr. Kotter from a popular television show from the 70's that introduced to us a young actor named John Travolta a.k.a Vinny Barbarino, who is now a meg movie star. So, In the end, with sigh of relief/disappointment I say see you later to summer 2005 and to the returning school year I simply say welcome back, welcome back, welcome back.
