There are times in every person's life when certain events take place and the only things that person can do is walk away. Walk away from the friends, associates, and even family that have been there for them through thick and thin. For that person must go on a journey, or in australian terms, a walk-about so to speak and find themselves. Find the person who they once were and rise back up from the ashes like the proverbial Phoenix.
It's the little things that tend to snowball out of control and eventually become an avalanche. That avalanche has trapped us and the massive weight is smothering us to the point of suffocation. For we sometimes think there is no rescue party coming to save us and the weight of our problems will continue to hold us down. One tends to give up all hope, for one after another, problems seem to stack up and there are absolutely no solutions.
Yes it is the tough times that we find out who we are when we are backed into a corner. Like the saying goes, "When the tough get going, the going gets tough." Each of us at one time or another has gone on a walk-about and the people we meet along the way inadvertently help us and give us answers to the questions we seek. They see what we don't see and they open our eyes to the truth in a manner of speaking. A spiritual guide who tries to lead that person back to what he/she once was.
Sometimes it takes a tragic accident to see the bigger picture in a manner of speaking. IFor each of us have gone walk-about and had to confront the person we are now and the person that we once were. A battle from within in a manner of speaking and we eventually find the answers we seek and what is truly important to us in our lives. It takes a person hitting rock bottom to realize the seriousness of where he/she will be heading. Like a lightbulb turning on above that person's head and seeing what truly means so much in life.
The journey to return is a tough task at hand. There will be blood, sweat, and tears so to speak but that is the price to pay for leaving the life that one once knew and trying to return back to it like nothing happened. The people may still be the same, yet the attitudes have changed. It may take time, but eventually everything will be back as it once was. Let me ask you this question, have you ever come to a point in your own life that a walk-about was needed?

Immortality
Each of us has had the thought of living forever, being immortal in a manner of speaking. BUT what kind of immortality would one seek? The type of immortality of Dracula in which one would not see the light of day ever again? Or the type of Immortality of the Highlander, Duncan McLeod, where there can be only one. A constant looking over one's shoulder as other immortals seek to take your head. There are many types of immortality but which would one pick if you had the choice?
Never getting sick, never getting old, never getting any broken bones are some of the advantages of being immortal. Living life to the extreme and not caring about the consequences or the safety of one's own health. It's like a kid being in a candy store where all one wants is the rush of adrenaline in your blood. For the world is at your fingertips just waiting to be explored and challenged to its total limits. Climbing the highest mountain so to speak and never coming down from being so high.
Yet there are the drawbacks of having immortality. The ones we love grow older and pass away and we still live as young as can be. The friends made have grown old and wither away like a wilting flower that hasn't had any water to live. For one has to live with the memories of past loves and past friends who one has made over the centuries. One can feel empty inside when the life you once knew is over and you have to start over. It's a constant cycle that will never end, for the people around will age but you will not.
One can go insane at the thought of living forever. For the things they have seen, the people they have met during one's past lives, and the enemies they have made would affect that person physically and psychologically. For one can't be shot or stabbed, for if one suffers a broken bone it heals at an instant. Don't get me wrong, it would be fantastic to have that but it would mess with the person's mind years or centuries down the road. For one might end up in a padded room, looking at ink blots, and talking to shrinks for the rest of one's life.
In the end, the thoughts of immortality fade when one looks at the aspect of living life to the fullest day by day. Stopping to smell the roses so to speak and basically taking risks every now and then. I ask you this question, would you go through a century of heartache and pain to live forever or would you accept the life you are living now? Immortality, what a concept.

Like A Kid Again
Everybody has that inner child within themselves that loves to come out and play. Apparently my inner child's name is Earl and he has never grown up. It's like being a kid again, a phrase that has been said by so many adults over the years. Though as we get older, the inner child inside each of us stays young forever. For we often try to keep the spirit alive in us though the energy we have sometimes fades away. It's a matter of having that feeling of excitement that one never seems to lose.
The excitement of visiting new places, watching a movie that one has been dying to see, or trying to see what presents one has under the Christmas tree. It's a feeling that will never go away no matter how hard one tries to keep it held in. Each of us has also had or still have that excitement of waking up Saturday and watching morning cartoons with a box of cereal at hand. It's basically the kid inside us that makes us who we are and why people like us...sometimes.
At one time or another everybody has gotten excited when they hear the ice cream truck drive by or is heard in the distance. The inner child wants to basically find the ice cream truck and get that ice cream cone or popsicle. It's part of our childhood which we share with today's generation of kids. Everyone has that urge to play in the rain fearing the consequences afterwards which is getting sick. It's the inner child mentality we never really grow out of and probably never will.
Each one of us has a job that they really love or they really hate, there's really no in between. For one must find ways to entertain themselves in order for the time to pass and to make the environment around them enjoyable. Aspects such as swivel chair races, whip cream fights, water balloon fights, copying one's face on the copy machine, these are just some examples of passing the time in one's own way during those days and nights of boredom.
Yet there are those that leave the inner child behind and settle down for a life of responsibility and mediocrity. A person can tell that they want to have fun and let loose but something is holding them back. Call it fear or simply call it being a party pooper but they need that one spark to completely let loose from the clutches of seriousness. I often say, you have to be a little insane to live in a world that has gotten way too serious. Live a little, throw away the suits and dresses and dress comfortably. Be the leader not the follower in a manner of speaking.
For one can use MacGyver like instincts and look around one's working environment to find ways to amuse oneself. You just have to revert back to the good ole days so to speak and be that kid inside again. In the end, as we get older we need to realize that each of us needs that kid inside. For if we lose that inner child, we become the old mean neighbor who keeps the sports equipment that lands in his/her years and never gives it back. Let me ask you this question before I end, when was the last time you did something childish, had no regrets and you basically felt like a kid again.

The Perfect Mom
*This is basically to all the moms. If you're not a mom, you can give this to your mom.*
You have been there for us through the good times and the bad times. You stayed up with us when we were sick and you knew what made us feel a whole lot better. For you waited on us hand and foot and wanted nothing in return but our love and gratitude. You handled our bumps and bruises with care and used your motherly love to basically kiss them away when we were younger. The tender loving care you gave us made each of us feel special like princes and princesses or kings and queens.
Growing up you have seen us go through every emotion in the book so to speak. You know us inside and out because each of us has a little piece of mom in our DNA. Our quirky little traits and characteristics come from you and a little bit from dear old dad. You have also seen our darkside but never ran away in fear. For you have been there before and the same things we did. The lessons that were taught to you back then are now being taught to us by you. Though we may not listen at times, we hear what you are saying and keep what you say in the back of our minds and in our hearts.
Through our times of heartache you have stood by our side giving us bear hugs and kisses. You always knew what to say to make our day a little brighter and what to cook when we fell down. A sixth sense in a manner of speaking that all moms have when it concerns their kids. For you act like a superhero coming to save the day so to speak. Whether it is in our professional lives or in our personal lives we can always count on you to be there for us when we are in dire need of advice. You taught us to basically have balance in our lives that tend to be chaotic at times.
You have been there when we succeeded in the things that we strived for. Supporting us with whatever endeavor we wanted to do in life, no matter what. Yet you also be there when we fail, keeping our spirits up, and telling us never to give up on our dreams. Keeping us happy despite the times of sadness and tough times in your own lives. You have sacrificed so much for us and we appreciate that, though we don't show it at times. We are often too caught up with our own lives to give thanks that we have a mom that loves and cares for us so much.
As we get older, you realize your baby boy or baby girl is growing up and is turning to a fine young man or a fine young lady. For one day you hope that we will find the one that we will settle down with and raise our own family. It will basically come full circle for us as it did for you. Looking back, as kids we have made you happy, sad, crazy, angry and everything in between. In the end, no matter what anybody says, each of you are absolutely...THE PERFECT MOM.
