Stylin' and Profylin'

It's been said that one of the keys for being a success in life and/or business is how one dresses. Let me ask you this question, do the clothes that a person wears define him or her or is it the other way around? A man that is wearing an expensive suit, tie, and shoes will undoubtedly look much better than a man that is merely wearing normal everyday clothing such as a shirt, hat, jeans, and a pair of sneakers. This can also also to females as well. But there is a saying that goes that the clothes don't necessarilly make a person, it's the person wearing it who brings confidence and a little ego as well.

I know I'm getting old when I start off a sentence with kids today and I'm only 27. Well, kids today are more fashion conscious and want to pay more for the expensive name brands than the generic brands. Such name brands are Sean John, Tommy Hilfiger, Fubu, Rocawear, and the list goes on and on. My generation wasn't really concerned with fashion, we wore what we felt was comfortable and the only name brands that had our attention were the type of shoes such as Nike, Reebok, Addidas, Converse, and the list goes on and on. The 80's, the era of simplicity and I lived through it back in the day.

In my era of simplicity, ripped jeans, pegged pants, no fear t-shirts, and fanny packs were all the rage. It wasn't so much the name brand but how one looked in the clothes that he or she wore in the 80's and spilling over into the early 90's. Let me tellyou something, there are basically two reasons why I stopped pegging my pants in the early 90's because #1 it was to much of a hassle to continually fold them and #2 it started to cut off blood flow to my feet. When I look back at my middle school days, I actually look like a complete dork and ask myself this one simple question....WHY?

In some aspects, it's the trends that seem hip and trendy back then that make people cringe when looking at old pictures of themselves and ask why didn't someone stop us. As I'm getting older, I have to realize that I'm becoming an old fogey seraching for comfortabilty and dependabilty in pants and in shoes rather than style and flash. I used to buy shoes for the expressed purpose of looking good in them, now I buy shoes for the expressed purpose of finding those gel souls just to be comfortable. One just has to choose either being comfortable or uncomfortable just for the sake of looking good.

In retrospect, a person can be judged by how one dresses, but sometimes the way one dresses can mislead others into thinking who he or she really is. It's been said that you should never judge a book by it's cover, because what is shown on the outside is quite different when one opens the book and finds much more than he or she bargained for. If you think about it, clothing can show how confident you are, how trustworthy you are, how much potential you have, and how much respect should be given to you. In the end, if you are stylin' and profilin' you will be able to go places in life you never expected to go.
