Like A Kid Again

Everybody has that inner child within themselves that loves to come out and play. Apparently my inner child's name is Earl and he has never grown up. It's like being a kid again, a phrase that has been said by so many adults over the years. Though as we get older, the inner child inside each of us stays young forever. For we often try to keep the spirit alive in us though the energy we have sometimes fades away. It's a matter of having that feeling of excitement that one never seems to lose.

The excitement of visiting new places, watching a movie that one has been dying to see, or trying to see what presents one has under the Christmas tree. It's a feeling that will never go away no matter how hard one tries to keep it held in. Each of us has also had or still have that excitement of waking up Saturday and watching morning cartoons with a box of cereal at hand. It's basically the kid inside us that makes us who we are and why people like us...sometimes.

At one time or another everybody has gotten excited when they hear the ice cream truck drive by or is heard in the distance. The inner child wants to basically find the ice cream truck and get that ice cream cone or popsicle. It's part of our childhood which we share with today's generation of kids. Everyone has that urge to play in the rain fearing the consequences afterwards which is getting sick. It's the inner child mentality we never really grow out of and probably never will.

Each one of us has a job that they really love or they really hate, there's really no in between. For one must find ways to entertain themselves in order for the time to pass and to make the environment around them enjoyable. Aspects such as swivel chair races, whip cream fights, water balloon fights, copying one's face on the copy machine, these are just some examples of passing the time in one's own way during those days and nights of boredom.

Yet there are those that leave the inner child behind and settle down for a life of responsibility and mediocrity. A person can tell that they want to have fun and let loose but something is holding them back. Call it fear or simply call it being a party pooper but they need that one spark to completely let loose from the clutches of seriousness. I often say, you have to be a little insane to live in a world that has gotten way too serious. Live a little, throw away the suits and dresses and dress comfortably. Be the leader not the follower in a manner of speaking.

For one can use MacGyver like instincts and look around one's working environment to find ways to amuse oneself. You just have to revert back to the good ole days so to speak and be that kid inside again. In the end, as we get older we need to realize that each of us needs that kid inside. For if we lose that inner child, we become the old mean neighbor who keeps the sports equipment that lands in his/her years and never gives it back. Let me ask you this question before I end, when was the last time you did something childish, had no regrets and you basically felt like a kid again.
