What If

There are certain events in people's lives that they often consider what would happen if they took alternate paths. Paths that some or many would describe as the WHAT IF factor. For many of us think of the what if factor every now and then pertaining to our own lives and the people we meet. It's a constant racking of the brain,in a manner of speaking, when one thinks if his or her life would be the same if that event never occurred or he or she never met the people that are in their lives today.

It's a constant guessing game for we all walk the earth meeting new people while we travel the road of life. As said before, life can give us knockout blows that send each of us down to the mat hard. BUT what if that knockout blow never happened and one continued on that path never knowing what could have been and what might have been. It's a crap shoot so to speak, for we never really know what is going to happen when we get out of bed in the morning. One day we could be hit by a car and the injuries sustained will be well compensated and one can be set for life. For the injuries sustained will be paid by those at fault.

On the other hand, the accident would have never occurred and life as one would know would still stay the same. The daily grind continues as one burns the midnight oil to get that hard earned and well-deserved paycheck. It's a thought that many think about and yet wonder if they could go back and change certain events. Like Quantum Leap where Dr. Sam Beckett goes back in time and puts right that once was wrong so long ago. Changing the past may solve one's own conscience but would it be right? It's a tough question to answer.

BUT the real question here is, would that person find happiness and/or peace if those events ever happened? Would one continue on that path and later down the road and potentially that particular event would eventually happen. It would be in comparison to the movie Final Destination. Certain events happen for a reason, and the lessons learned from the past can be a guide to what will happen both in the present and future. For it could also be compared to the movie Sliding Doors starring Gwyneth Paltrow. One life, two separate events happen, and one outcome, but which outcome would it be?

One could debate it to the ground but looking to the past solves nothing. It just brings up memories that are near and dear to one's heart. Though a piece may be missing, it is up to the person to move forward and have a sense of closure. For the memories and cherished time spent will always be there in the back of your mind. For if one smiles as he/she reflects then it was worth going through those events. In the end, it is not a matter of thinking in the What If anymore, for that is in the past. For we must eventually move forward in the present/future and live in the here and now.
