Michael Jordan, Wayne Gretzky, Joe Namath, Cal Ripkin Jr. These names are synonymous with greatness and the deemed legends in the annals of sports history. In retrospect, names are merely an identification, putting a name to an identity so to speak.
It distinguishes you from every other Joe and Jane Schmoe out in the world. Yet it is the person behind the name that signifies who he or she is by their personality, heart, and drive. So many have spent a lifetime of blood, sweat, and tears to make a name for themselves either in the entertainment industry or the cut throat business world. So many succeed and their names are associated with struggle, hard work, and accomplishment. Yet, others may fail and their names are either forgotten or unfortunately live on in utter infamy.
Proverbs 22:1 states: ~A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favor rather than silver and gold.~ No matter the accomplishments made or the riches you acquire, a good name is the biggest investment you will ever have. A name can be used over and over again from generation to generation, but the person behind the name can never be duplicated.
One day each of us will someday leave this hallowed ground we call earth. Those who know us well or have been associated with us will speak of us in remembrance. Whether it be good or whether it be bad, they will speak our names. How will YOU be remembered when your name is spoken?
