Getting Older

The years have passed by so quickly. As it has been said time and time again, "With age comes wisdom." For every man, from generation to generation, has eventually done "the old man noise." A sound/grunt that all men cannot escape from. Metaphorically speaking, it is a sound that signifies that we're not getting any younger. For many of us have one time or another had this thought, "I'm getting too old for this. A thought that I have said so many times over and over again.

As kids we all felt indestructible, able to take on the world at every turn. As kids we take the bumps and bruises of life. The broken bones we suffer heal quickly and we're right back in the game so to speak. Now as adults, the bumps, bruises, and broken bones last longer with us and take much longer to heal. The sore backs and the cracking knees are just some of the many wonderful things we get to experience as years go by.

As youngsters, eating a meal would be considered a sport. A contest of sorts in which who can scarf down several boxes of pizza. As one gets older a person would be lucky to eat 2 slices of pizza let alone 2 boxes. For a kid can eat a big meal and go on his/her merry way with energy to spare. Yet, as an adult, after eating a big meal one needs a nap, or should I say hibernation. A type of hibernation in which a bear takes during the winter.

Personally, I stand at the cusp of turning 30. My best friend and I tend to say, "It's all going downhill from here", in a joking way. But in reality our formative years are just beginning and there are events in our lives yet to be experienced. It's hard to tell what the future holds in 10, 20, 30 years from now. In the end, we all will grow old gracefully and during our latter years, we all will pass down our wisdom to the younger generation.
